HG-ICP-MS

Hydride Generation (HG)-ICP-MS

The determination of Arsenic (As), Selenium (Se), Tellurium (Te), Antimony (Sb) and Bismuth (Bi) can be carried on by hydride generation (HG)-ICP-MS. The reaction of these metalloid oxyanions with sodium borohydride and HCl produces a volatile hydride: TeH2, Se H2, AsH3, SbH3, etc, which is carried to ICP torch and measured by ICP-MS.

Mercury can be measured by cold vapor generation (CV), in which mercury is reduced in solution using stannous chloride or sodium borohydride in a closed system. The reaction quantitatively releases mercury (from the sample solution) that is carried by a stream of argon to the ICP torch, and detected by ICP-MS.
